New Mexico State Aggies
After a much anticipated preseason, Reggie Theus' Aggies have struggled to a two and three record early in the season. (As of Dec. 1) With injuries to on-court leaders Tyrone Nelson and Elijah Ingram, the Aggies tough early season schedule may have already dented the Aggies prospects for post-season play.
University of Utah transfer Justin Hawkins is playing well, and Kansas State transfer Fred Peete has played a key role, dishing our a surprising number of assists.
Martin Iti has at times been unstoppable, but has been hampered by fouls and poor free throw shooting. No, make that abysmal free throw shooting.
Hatchila Passos returned to the line up against the New Mexico Lobos, and has looked strong in the Aggies games at Albuquerque and against Chicago State in Las Cruces. His return gives the Aggies some good depth up front.
In my opinion, the Aggies biggest problem has been the on-court leadership that has been missing due to the injuries to Nelson and Ingram.
Last night (12-1-06) against Chicago State, Ingram came in and played very well, but his sore Achilles must be hurting this morning.
I thought the game was very poorly officiated, with many calls being made underneath the basket against both teams taht I thought were unnecessary.
